Tips for a Responsible Traveler
Although not legally binding, this code guides governments, tourism companies, destinations, communities and tourists towards sustainable and responsible practices.

1. Honor Your Hosts and Common Heritage
Research your destination and learn about local customs and traditions. This will help you create a more meaningful connection with the community. Learn a few words in the local language and respect the culture, history and architecture of the destination. Always ask before taking photos of people.

2. Protecting the Planet
Reduces environmental impact, respects natural habitats and wildlife, and chooses responsible products. Reduce water and energy consumption wherever possible.

3. Supports the local economy
Buy local products and crafts at a fair price. Avoid counterfeit items and respect local regulations.

4. Be an Informed Traveler
Take health and safety precautions and be prepared for emergencies. Research voluntourism and choose tour operators with environmental policies.

5. Be a Respectful Traveler
Respect local laws, human rights and people's privacy. Support community projects and avoid supporting harmful practices such as child abuse. Take photographic memories, not protected cultural artifacts.
